Project Transformation (PT) is a program of FYM Consulting; an independent community-based consulting firm, comprised of multiethnic professionals who contract educational and therapeutic services that focus on the following critical areas that impact urban communities: Education, Health, Economic Development and Civic Responsibility/Citizenship
Statement of Need: For the first time in history there are more that 2,000,000 people incarcerated in the United States with approximately half incarcerated for drug related crimes receiving longer sentences with little or no rehabilitation, with a large percent of this population being women and men of color . Subsequently, our communities are beginning to see a large percentage of ex-offenders population returning back into our communities like never before.
According to research, one contributing factor for the increasing rate of incarceration is the breakdown of the family institution, which presents another systematic problem. Research shows that children of incarcerated parents have a 6-7% increased rate of juvenile delinquency and incarceration themselves. These children also suffer from poor self-esteem and social skill development, poverty, single parent house holds and have higher rates of anxiety, depression and suffer from other mental health illness, as well as lower scholastic achievement and a higher drop out rate. With budget cuts and funding constantly being diverted we are challenged to develop more strategic, comprehensive and collaborative programs to serve as an intervention and resource for this growing, underserved and marginalized population.
Our Mission: To provide offenders and ex-offenders with direct re-entry services, to provide community awareness and family enrichment opportunities for children of incarcerated parents and their families living in King,Pierce and Thurston counties who've been affected by the impact of incarceration.
